WILD ACRES POND DAM ASSESSMENT AND REHABILITATION

SK Design Group is providing engineering assessment and rehabilitation design services for the Wild Acres Pond No. 2 Dam Improvement Project in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. This project focuses on evaluating the condition and performance of the existing dam, including the concrete spillway, earthen berm, pedestrian bridge, and associated hydraulic features. The goal of the project is to support the City of Pittsfield in determining the most appropriate long-term solution for maintaining dam safety, regulatory compliance, and functional performance while preserving upstream water levels and sensitive ecological resources.

Work currently in progress includes data review, site reconnaissance, hydrologic and hydraulic evaluation, and the development of conceptual alternatives ranging from rehabilitation to partial or full replacement of the structure. SK Design Group is coordinating closely with city staff and environmental specialists to assess permitting requirements and resource impacts, including protection of pondweed habitat. The project will advance through preliminary and final design, culminating in a bid-ready construction package that supports informed decision-making and implementation by the city.
